It's Cool in the Furnace - The Musical
On Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th December
2009, The Kenya Conservatoire of Music
in partnership with The GoDown staged
a musical for the Christmas period. "It's
Cool in the Furnace" was staged at the
Braeburn theatre, Gitanga Road.
The musical is based on the well known
Biblical story of Daniel and his three
friends who were thrown into a furnace
by King Nebuchadnezzar for refusing to
worship the idol the king had erected.
Preparations for the performance kicked
off in September with very many enthusiastic
young actors and musicians lining up for
auditions, and it was a debut performance
for many of the over 100-strong cast on
a professional stage.
The GoDown invests in initiatives such
as these that inspire, encourage and nurture
talent from an early age, and hopes to
stage such musicals annually. The three
shows that were staged attracted over
one thousand audience members in total.
