'Battle of the Bands'

The Battle of the Bands, a showcase of live rock music, has now become a key activity in the GoDown's calendar of events.

In 2009, the second showdown at the GoDown attracted a record breaking 14 bands from all over Nairobi;

Bloodshed, Dove Slimme, In Oath , Jason & Jazz, Last Year's Tragedy, M2O (Music 2 Overdrive), Murfy's fLaw, Narcissistic Tendencies With Delusions of Grandeur (NTWDOG), Rock of Ages, Seismic Undying, The Awakening, The Beathogz, The Itch, The Kremlin Diamond Fund, and UETA.

The main objective of the 'battle' is to promote local rock bands and the culture of live music performance. Concerts in Nairobi typically use playback, lip synching in stage performances.

The Battle of the Bands celebrates instrumentalization, good musicianship and excellent live show performance. The 'battle' also aims at entertaining the rapidly growing fan base for local rock music, and creating awareness of the thriving, rapidly growing genre and often ignored Kenyan rock scene.
