Kenya Burning Exhibition:
“Kenya Burning” is a photographic exhibition of images captured by amateur and professional photographers during the post-election violence of 2007/8. This exhibition provides an opportunity for the audience to remember and reflect on the tragic post-election events of 2008 and reinforce sentiments already strongly expressed by ordinary citizens across the country that this should never happen again. Dunda Mtaani:is a community festival that takes place in various communities within Nairobi. The festival has been running for five years now and has been staged in Korogocho, Kibera, Huruma, Kawangware, Buruburu, Riruta and California. The aim of this event is to give local youth groups the opportunity to show-case their artistic talents through music, dance and acrobatics, in conjunction with some professional artists.
Battle of the Bands:
Battle of the Bands (BOTB) is an annual music competition in form of a concert, pitting several rock bands against each other, at the end of which a winner or winners are picked by a panel of judges and rewarded.
Dubbed, Showdown @ the GoDown, this is the grand annual version of the regular monthly BOTB. It has been successfully held three times. >more
Nairobi Province Visual Arts Exhibition (Manjano):
This is an exhibition that features artists from all over Nairobi. It has been supported twice by The GoDown Arts Centre with the centre providing the gallery space in 2010. In 2011, the exhibition was held at Village Market. It featured a theme and the artists were split into two categories: Practicing artists and students. Each category saw the top three artists being awarded cash prizes. The aim of this exhibition is to expose artists to a wide variety of audiences as well as to help them market their work.
Hadaf International Somalia Cartoon Exhibition:The GoDown Arts Centre hosted this very insightful cartoon exhibition on Somalia. More than 1000 cartoons were submitted through the various drop-off points in Nairobi and on email. The exhibition was held at The GoDown Arts Centre from 2nd - 30th April 2011. The Association of East African Cartoonists (KATUNI) wishes to invite you to the launch of the HADAF International Somalia Cartoon Exhibition on 2nd April at 2:00p.m at The GoDown Arts Centre. The guest of honor was H.E. Mohamed Ali Nur, Ambassador of the Somali Republic.
